Ballantyne RV “Recreation Tips” Campaign
My Role in This Project
Mark McMann, President of Ballantyne RV & Marine, wanted to show that he was different from other dealers. And while he didn’t have an enormous budget, he did know how to get the best work from his creative team by giving clear input, trusting our strategic approach, and having the guts to follow through. While Ballantyne’s competition focuses on products and price (vehicles), we chose to focus on emotional benefits (recreation). Writer Matt Conn and I came up with the concept of a series of TV spots modeled after 1940s/1950s educational films. I drew all storyboards for 3 or 4 spots, and was instrumental in selling the idea to the client. I created all the screen graphics, which editor Chris Bauman animated and edited together with existing footage. This campaign brought in a few awards, including the 2005 Rochester Addy Awards Judges’ Special Recognition Award.
